Job Summary

The responsibility of the Technician (Belt Splicing / Rubber Lining /Coatings) is the installation and repair of conveyor belts and conveyor systems and/or the ability to perform coatings and linings on pulleys, tanks and all surfaces at mine and job sites.  THIS IS A SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION.

Position Type

Full-Time Non-Exempt. 40 hours per week / Monday – Friday (Hours vary depending upon job). Overtime is frequently available and required. This position is often required to work a variety of schedules; day and evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to perform physical manual labor, in the outdoors, heavy industry, construction or mining environment.
  • Prepare metal surfaces for rubber lining, which may include sandblasting and grinding.
  • Routinely work with and apply cured and uncured rubber linings.
  • Line interior of tanks, valves, pipes and other surfaces or vessels with rubber to prevent corrosion and minimize contamination shock, ignition or explosion of hazardous contents.
  • Able to perform coatings and linings on pulleys, tanks and all surfaces at mine and job sites.
  • Mechanical aptitude – competence in the use of grinders, buffers and rubber working tools and equipment.
  • Inject compressed air into vessels to bond lining to vessel walls and introduce live steam or place article in autoclave to vulcanize rubber lining.
  • Test lining for holes or faulty seams.
  • Skilled in performing conveyor belt splicing; requires knowledge of belts and related equipment to perform the splice.
    • Lap splice, finger splice, and cable belt splice
    • Refurbishment skills
    • Basic rigging, lifting and slinging
    • Pulley lagging including ceramic and rubber lagging
  • Document job-site work as required; materials, labor and other costs used on jobs.
  • Promote safety by adhering to company safety guidelines; which includes but is not limited to the proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment and materials and use of personal protective gear.
  • Know, understand and be capable of utilizing emergency response protocol during an accident.
  • Regular attendance according to schedule.
  • Follow all Company policy and procedures.

Travel

Domestic, overnight travel is often required of this position.  Emergency call outs may provide little or no notice of travel.  Travel location may be remote. Duration of travel could last for weeks at a time.

Qualifications

Preferred:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid driver’s license, required
  • 1 year of experience in industrial maintenance or mechanical work.
  • Basic Conveyor Belt Splicing Certification, preferred.
  • Basic site safety training (OSHA 10 or equivalent), preferred
