Restoring and Protecting a Scrubber Room Floor Corroded by Sulfuric Acid
Industry: Quartz Mining
Location: North Carolina, USA
Application: Scrubber Room Concrete Floor
Exposure: Sulfuric Acid
Solution: COROCAST® VE Polymer Concrete and COROFLAKE® 24 Mat-Reinforced Coating System
Expected Service Life: 10 years
The Challenge
A quartz mining facility in North Carolina was experiencing significant corrosion of the concrete floor in its scrubber room. Exposure to sulfuric acid had badly deteriorated the bare concrete, requiring the surface to be restored and protected with a corrosion-resistant system.
The project presented two primary challenges: removing the remnants of the existing floor and completing the work without interrupting the customer’s production.
The Solution
The project scope included restoring the corroded concrete to its original depth and applying a protective coating designed to withstand the demanding operating environment.
REMA TIP TOP selected a combined system consisting of:
- COROCAST® VE Polymer Concrete to restore the deteriorated concrete
- COROFLAKE® 24 Mat-Reinforced Coating System to provide corrosion-resistant protection
This solution provided the materials needed for a large-scale restoration while accommodating the customer’s requirement to avoid production interruption.
