Relining Leach Tanks for a Rare Earth Mining Operation
Industry: Rare Earth Mineral Mining
Location: California, USA
Application: Leach Tanks, 12 feet by 16 feet tall
Process Material: Rare Earth Slurry
Previous Lining: Blair 621
Solution: CHEMOLINE® 4 B, 5 mm
Expected Service Life: 10 years
The Challenge
A rare earth mineral mining operation in California was experiencing failure of the existing lining system in its leach tanks. The tanks, measuring 12 feet by 16 feet tall, process rare earth slurry and required a dependable lining solution.
The project also required the customer to revise the existing liner specification from Blair 621 to CHEMOLINE® 4 B.
The Solution
The scope of the project included removing the existing liner and replacing it with a new 5 mm CHEMOLINE® 4 B lining system.
CHEMOLINE® 4 B was selected to support two important operating goals:
- Reduce unplanned outages
- Provide a longer service life
The Result
The existing liner was replaced with the specified CHEMOLINE® 4 B system. Installed in July 2022, the new 5 mm lining has an expected service life of 10 years.
By upgrading the lining specification, the customer received a solution intended to reduce unplanned outages and deliver longer-lasting protection for the leach tanks.
